The Library (Yes, they would call themselves that)
"So... this is my family I guess."
"Dad's a Wizard. Well, actually he's a scientist"
The thin, serious-faced man poured over a textbook and stacks of notes
"It's just that he studies magic. Scientifically!"
The thin, serious-faced man and his work was actually floating upside down, rotating around a glowing obelisk
"My Mom just works at home, most days"
A short, fiery haired woman grinned as she pulled down a pair of goggles and lit a welding torch
"I guess that makes her a boring old housewife"
She began work on what looked suspiciously like a nuclear reactor
"Let's see, there's oldest brother Simon"
A grinning young man, shorter even than his mother, crashed through a wooden door
"He always looks out for us"
Scooping up a younger sibling in either arm, he charged back out the doorway
"Then there's Susan. I don't think she's a robot"
A great black wolf charged at a young woman, nearly as tall as her father
"But I could be mistaken"
The girl merely raised an eyebrow and stepped to the side, arms folded behind her back, causing the wolf to run face-first into a wall
"Eugene's next. He helps with everyone's homework"
As tall as his sister, as red-haired as his brother, he grinned as he stepped down from pinning something to a board
"I'm about eighty percent sure he's plotting world domination"
He stepped back to examine his board, covered with an intricate web of pictures and news-clippings
"George would probably help him with that"
Yet another red-haired Book looked up from her book with a red cover
"Just to make sure no one would interrupt her"
She stuck out her tongue and went back to reading
"Mordecai, that's my 'twin', the animal whisperer"
A boy with his father's dark hair and glasses (and a tarantula on his shoulder) sat next to Simon on a ledge, asking "If I skip nap time..."
"Actually, if animals could hear his jokes, they'd probably avoid him"
"Am I resisting a-rest?" Simon pushed him off
"You know, I think Hadassah must actually be the oldest"
A girl, younger than the rest and with much darker skin, curtsied politely to her siblings
"By a couple thousand years, actually"
She was clad in the dusty wrappings of a mummy
"And that's me. Diggory Book. I was, er... adopted"
Flashes of dark rooms, evil rituals and the word "changeling" repeated over and over
"Not that they hold it against me"
Mordecai handed his tarantula to the identical (except for no glasses and bright red hair) brother, who yelped and dropped it
"That's the thing about the Books, MY family. If it's strange, bizarre, maybe a little dangerous... they're up for it"
